Fishing ban
Fishing in the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal's waters in Hangzhou has been banned.
Officials were tipped off that some people were fishing in the canal using very small mesh nets. Some city residents were worried that such activities would harm the environment. Then the city government decided to totally ban fishing in these waters.
The canal used to harbor few fish due to poor water quality but in recent years fish stocks appear to be growing with the improvement in water quality.
