Line 1 hours grow

The service hours of Metro Line 1 will be extended to 10:30pm on weekend nights, the Metro operator said last week.

Line 1 will operate 18 hours, instead of 17.5 hours, every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, starting last Friday.

The subway was put into operation on November 24 and has extended its service hours five times to make it more convenient for the public. The last high-speed train reaches Hangzhou at 10:42pm, so its passengers could still catch the last Metro train.

The communication-based train control system of Metro Line 1 is being tested now and is expected to be put into use in the second half of 2014. The CBTC is a railway signaling system that makes use of telecommunications between the train and track equipment for traffic management and infrastructure control. By means of CBTC system, subways are managed in a more efficient and safer way than with traditional signaling system.

Metro Line 1 trains will not require drivers on the trains after the CBTC system is put into use, but a driver still would be assigned to each train to deal with emergencies.
