Line 2 construction
RESIDENTS are reminded to be prepared for heavy traffic jams around Metro Line 2 stations in Hangzhou after construction started on the northwest section at Gucui Road Station and Fengtan Road Station.
There are 11 stations along the northwest stretch of the line, all west of the Qiantang River in the center of Hangzhou. Work on the other stations will start soon.
Construction near Gucui Road Station will have the biggest impact as Century Mart shopping mall is just north of the crossing and a fire brigade is situated to the southwest. Tongde Hospital of Zhejiang Province is also within walking distance of the station.
At the same time seven bridges will also be renovated along the line. To ease traffic congestion in the area, Yuhangtang Road will open by the end of the year. The six-lane road is north of Wenyi Road along Yuhangtang River.
The first phase of Metro Line 2, south of the Qiantang River, is scheduled to go into operation by the end of 2013, with 13 stations along 18 kilometers of track.
The full 30-kilometer line is expected to be completed by 2017. It will connect Caoyangcun Station in Xiaoshan District with Qianjiang Road Station north of the river. When completed, the line will have 24 stations.
