CONSTRUCTION of Metro Line 5 will begin next year after the project was approved by the Zhejiang Province Development and Reform Commission, officials said on August 26.
The 48-kilometer subway line will connect Yuhang District to Xiaoshan District and all 36 stations will be underground. The new line is expected to open in 2019.
Line 5 will run through seven districts including Xihu, Gongshu, Xiacheng, Shangcheng and Binjiang. Commuters will also be able to transfer to lines 1, 2, 4 and 6.
