Local charms go global
THE Hangzhou government hosted gala dinners in London and Budapest recently to promote the city’s unique cuisine and culture abroad.
Under the name “Culture of China, Taste of Hangzhou,” the gala dinner in London was held at Royal China Group’s flagship store.
“Hangzhou showed its charm in early September when it hosted the G20 Summit. The city has one of China’s eight major cuisines,” said Xie Shuangcheng, the city’s vice mayor, at the dinner.
“Hangzhou feels honored to make London the first stop of its culinary tour in Europe. The event is an opportunity for London people to appreciate the Chinese city’s exquisite cuisine and rich culture,” said Fei Mingxing, Chinese consul general in London.
Baroness Jenkin from the House of Lords, City of London councilor Alastair Moss, Theodora Clarke, director of Conservative Friends of International Development, and other UK and Chinese guests savored dishes prepared by Hangzhou chefs, Hu Zhongying and Ye Hangsheng.
In Budapest, the second stop of the Hangzhou culinary tour, the gala dinner was held at the Nine Dragons Chinese Restaurant in the center of the Hungarian capital. More than 200 people attended.
Hu, Ye and their team spent two days preparing the dishes.
