Local heroes praised

The city government announced the 10 most admirable Hangzhou citizens for their outstanding contribution to raising social ethics.

Heading the list is Wu Juping, 32, dubbed the “prettiest mom” after she caught and saved a toddler who had fallen from the 10th floor of a residential building. She suffered multiple fractures of her arm in the incident in July 2011.

Second on the list is Wu Bin, a 48-year-old bus driver who died after being hit by a flying drum brake from a truck. In the last moments of his life, Wu endured great pain to pull the bus to a stop on the roadside, thus saving 24 passengers in the May 29 accident.

Others on the list are: Huang Xiaorong, a villager who saved a girl from drowning despite his fractured foot; firefighters Yin Jinliang, Chen Wei and Yin Zhihui, who died trying to put out a factory blaze in Xiaoshan; Mao Chenbing, who donated her very rare, so-called “panda blood” to a woman in southwestern Guizhou Province suffering massive bleeding in childbirth; local Olympic swimming champion Ye Shiwen; court judge Chen Liaomin; model driver Kong Shengdong; Hangzhou Deaf School headmaster Jiang Chunying and funeral house worker Xu Kangfei.
