Metro Line 2 expands
THE Metro Line 2 extension from Qingchun Square Station to Gucui Road Station began trial operations this week, before going commercial next month. It takes a train 58 minutes to travel end-to-end.
Line 2 transports more than 100,000 people a day and the number is expected to reach 300,000 when the extension goes into service.
The Metro operator has cut the interval between trains on Line 2 from six minutes to four minutes and 30 seconds and will cut it again to around four minutes after the extension.
Twenty-six trains are being used in the trial that will end on June 7, including six trains on standby. The northwest extension has 10 stations at Qingchun Square, Qingling Road, Jianguo Road N., Zhonghe Road N., Fengqi Road, Wulinmen, Shentangqiao, Xianingqiao, Xueyuan Road and Gucui Road.
The added section will make it easy for people to travel from Jianggan, Xiacheng, Gongshu districts in east and north Hangzhou to Xihu District in the west. It has transfer stations for Line 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9 and 10.
