Metro, airport to be linked

Hangzhou plans to set up a fast-speed Metro line connecting Xiaoshan International Airport with two stations in downtown.

The official website of Hangzhou Transportation Bureau reported that Hangzhou Mayor Xu Liyi had received a special report on September 4 about the fast line linking Hangzhou West Railway Station, currently under construction, and Xiaoshan International Airport. The line will also connect with Hangzhou East Railway Station, the main train station for high-speed rail travel in Hangzhou. The maximum speed on the proposed line is likely to be 120 kilometers per hour. It is expected to be completed before the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, the report said.

Hangzhou Transportation Bureau reported the plan to Hangzhou Party Secretary Zhao Yide on December 1, 2016, with options for a Metro, an elevated railway and low-speed Maglev technology.

The meeting on September 4 decided to opt for a fast-speed Metro as the line will cross the downtown area.

The line will start from Hangzhou West Railway Station, go along Wen’er Road and Wensan Road to Hangzhou East Railway Station, then along Hangzhou-Ningbo Expressway to Xiaoshan International Airport.
