Metro extensions

TEN of 11 stations for Metro Line 2 extension have been built and the subway’s second phase is now under construction. Both the extension and the second phase are scheduled to go into service in the second half of 2017, the Metro operator said.

All roads around the 11.8-kilometer extension from Qingchun Square Station to Fengtan Road will be reopened for traffic starting from July 1, Metro officials said.

The second phase of Line 2 is 11.2 kilometers long and designed with eight stations.

With the extension of Line 2 and the second phase and Line 4 extension put into service, the number of passengers is expected to surge.

Currently, Line 1 has more than 30 carriages running at an interval of four minutes and 45 seconds. The interval will be trimmed to three minutes or less in the future.

All the eight stations for the south extension of Metro Line 4 have been constructed and the 11.2-kilometer extension is expected to start operation next year.

The first phase of Metro Line 5 is already under construction. The 48.6-kilometer subway will have 36 stations when it opens in 2019.

Metro Line 6, initially 27 kilometers long with 19 stations, is also under construction and will open to traffic in 2019, officials said.
