Four Hangzhou families received the national title of 鈥淢odel Family鈥 as well as awards from the All-China Women鈥檚 Federation in Beijing recently.
Gu Jinxi鈥檚 family is one of them. Due to a medical condition, Gu is only 1.4 meters tall. He has no job. Though he and his family lived a difficult life in Jianggan District, his daughter Gu Pan is a smart student and the pride of the family.
Gu Pan enrolled in Nanyang Girls School in Singapore. From there she went to Stanford University in the US and got a job at Goldman Sachs and later at BlackRock Inc.
Gu Pan made cash donations to Project Hope, a foundation that supports primary education in rural areas. She also sponsored several needy kids after she began to work at the American investment bank.
The other three award-winners 鈥 Lu Liqing, Li Wei and Lang Liying and their families 鈥 also went to Beijing to receive awards.
