Model bus driver

Kong Shengdong, who has been driving a No. 28 bus for 10 years, has been named a Hangzhou model worker for learning from Lei Feng — the altruistic Chinese solider who always tried to help others and who died in 1963. March 5 is designated Learn from Lei Feng Day.

The Hangzhou Office for Ethical Progress and Hangzhou Public Transport Group honored Kong by fixing a commemorative plate to the front of his bus and having his picture painted on the side of the vehicle.

Kong has safely driven nearly 1 million kilometers, and is always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need, said officials.

He puts city maps, medical kits, folding fans and umbrellas in the bus for passenger use.

His outstanding service has earned the praise of many people and awards from his company and the city.

Kong said he will continue to try to serve the people as Lei Feng did.
