Monks raise cash

More than 1,000 Buddhist monks held a ritual on Monday to celebrate the birthday of Siddhartha Gautama, also called Shakyamuni, the founder of Buddhism.
They walked for two hours in a procession from the city’s Faxi Temple in Shangtianzu to the historical Lingyin Temple near West Lake and raised 468,000 yuan en-route. All the money will be donated to Zhejiang Charity Federation.
The annual event has raised 2 million yuan since 2009, benefiting needy people in western China.
