More elevated roads

HANGZHOU is revising its urban blueprint and will expand its expressway network, according to a meeting convened by Mayor Zhang Hongming.

Downtown Hangzhou was to be ringed by two elevated roads and crisscrossed by eight others, according to the original master plan for the period of 2001 to 2020.

The city received the central government approval last year to revise its urban plan that covers development targets, metropolitan layouts, green space, public facilities, protected historical sites, public transport, city infrastructure and environmental protection.

Three east-west expressways will be added, according to the new plan, to ease traffic jams in Gongshu District and downtown. Jihong Road, which is 3.4 kilometers long with six lanes, will open later this year.
