More ‘mini libraries’
The city will add 300 “mini libraries” in communities, train and bus stations, as well as other public places to promote reading. President Xi Jinping praised Hangzhou’s practice when he visited the city last month.
The first 50 such libraries appeared in Qianjiang New City in 2012, offering about 4,000 books. The next year they were seen in Xiaoshan International Airport and local railway stations.
At the end of 2014 there were 120 mini libraries across the city with about 70,000 books in circulation. The books were donated by publishing companies, bookstores and individuals.
An elderly man surnamed Hu donated more than 1,000 books to the mini-library program.
