Name that road

HANGZHOU is now soliciting names for the six roads that will lace the new Hangzhou Xintiandi area like a pearl necklace. The project covers 1.5 million square meters in Xiacheng District.

The six roads are temporarily being identified by numbers.

Road No. 1 will be lined by international commercial offices and serviced apartments. Near Road No. 2 and No. 5, there will be a grand cineplex with the biggest IMAX screen in Asia.

Along Road No. 3 there will be a large commercial center with office buildings and the "Gate of Hangzhou" - the landmark of Xintiandi.

Road No. 4 will feature a shopping mall, a Metro station for lines 3 and 4 and a Radisson hotel. Road No. 6 is a 36-meter-wide boulevard at the south end of the area.

According to the plan, Road No. 1 will become the core scenic area of Hangzhou Xintiandi, with the former site of the old Hangzhou Heavy Machine Factory as a distinctive relic remaining from the area's past.
