New high-speed railway planned
The preliminary design of Hangzhou-Shaoxing-Taizhou High-speed Railway has been approved by the Development and Reform Commission of Zhejiang Province.
The line, which will have nine stations, is designed to sustain the highest speed of 350 kilometers per hour. After its completion in 2021, it will take as little as 30 minutes to commute from Hangzhou to Tiantai and one hour to reach Taizhou.
It will be the first railway line for Xinchang, Shengzhou and Tiantai. It will also be the first high-speed railway project funded by a public-private partnership in China.
The 269km Hangzhou-Shaoxing-Taizhou High-speed Railway involves a total investment of 44.9 billion yuan (US$6.8 billion), with private capital contributing 51 percent of the sum. Private investors, including Fosun Group, Zhejiang Geely Holding Group and Wanfeng Auto Holding Group, will have a 34-year franchise, including four years for construction and 30 years for operation.
The Hangzhou-Shaoxing-Taizhou High-speed Railway will also have a second phase project in the future, to run from Shaoxing North Station to Xiaoshan International Airport, Jiangdong Station, Tongxiang Station and connect with Shanghai-Zhapu-Hangzhou Railway and then go further north to link up with Nantong-Suzhou-Jiaxing Railway.
After completion, the line will connect Hangzhou with Shanghai, cities along the southern and northern banks of the Yangtze River and cities in Shandong, Fujian and Guangdong provinces.
Meanwhile, the first high-speed railway linking Hangzhou with Shijiazhuang and Taiyuan in north China’s Hebei Province and Shanxi Province will start operation on July 1.
The train will set off daily from Hangzhou East at 7:14am and arrive at Shijiazhuang at 1:53pm and Taiyuan at 3:50pm. The whole journey takes eight hours and 36 minutes. Currently it takes at least 18 hours and 40 minutes to travel from Hangzhou to Shijiazhuang and 21 hours and 12 minutes from Hangzhou to Taiyuan.
Meanwhile, the railway operator will add another 61 passenger trains in the Yangtze River Delta Region.
