New hiking trail
A 4,000-meter hiking trail in the Xixi Valley has opened to the public, providing another option for walkers.
The new route starts from Shuangjingkou in the east, continues along Xixi Road, passing over several hills before reaching Taoyuan Hill in the north. It is the first phase of an 18-kilometer hiking route in the area. Seven scenic pavilions have been built along the trail for hikers to take rest.
In addition to the hiking route, Xihu District has prepared cultural activities in the Xixi Wetland and the Song Dynasty Town to entertain people during the Chinese New Year and Lantern Festival.
The district received 4 million visitors last year, up 24 percent from 2011. Tourism revenue surged 38 percent to 7 billion yuan.
