New tunnels by 2020
Hangzhou will have two more railway stations and four more tunnels under the Qiantang River by 2020.
A plan for the Hangzhou West Railway Station is expected to be approved as early as June, according to concerned authorities. It will become the terminal station of a second Hangzhou-Shanghai high-speed railway.
The city also plans to build a Hangzhou-Wuhan railway, using the same station, and build an airport west of Hangzhou to mainly serve corporate and private jets.
The Hangzhou South Railway Station, still under construction, will be inaugurated in June next year, the city planners said.
Work has started on three Qiantang River tunnels, connecting Wangjiang Road with Jianghui Road, Qingnian Road with Qingchun, and Bo’ao Road with Xinye Road across the river.
The city planners are also thinking of building two tunnels to connect Wenze Road with Xincheng Road and Xianghu Road N. with Junshi Road across the Qiantang River.
