New work permits
NICHOLAS Peter Lace, general manager of Hyatt Regency Hangzhou, received his work permit recently.
Lace thus became the first expatriate to use a recommendation letter from the city’s foreign experts affairs bureau to get the permit from the city’s human resources bureau.
“I came to Hangzhou on April 12 and got the work permit in less than one week,” a thrilled Nicholas told reporters.
From April 1, qualified foreigners can receive new work permits in China to replace the outdated foreign expert certificates.
“It used to take us at least 20 working days to get a work permit whenever we had a new foreign manager. The new system saved us a lot of time,” a hotel employee surnamed Ye said.
