Not to be sniffed at
VISITORS to the West Lake are to be handed out paper tissues featuring an ink wash-painting guide map of the Leifeng Pagoda, the Hangzhou Tourism Commission said this week in a post on Sina weibo, microblogging site.
However, these are no ordinary hankies. For if visitors use their smart phones to scan the QR (quick response) code on the bottom left-hand corner of the tissue, they will hear a podcast about the scenic area and can download pictures. It's like having a mobile guide at hand, say organizers.
The move, co-promoted by a media company and the tourism committee, is currently a trial and does not cover the whole city.
More distribution spots at citywide stations are expected from next month.
A netizen said on her weibo post that she would rather keep the attractive tissue than use it.
