The city of Hangzhou is beautiful because of the West Lake, and the lake's beauty relies greatly on its indepth historic and cultural significance. Protection of the lake sites is our way to pay respect to the history and to maintain the beauty of the city.

In addition to honor, it is more a responsibility to become a World Heritage Site. This requires us to pay even closer attention to the protection of the lake.

The beauty of the West Lake should also be appreciated for the significance of its humanistic and cultural scenes.
The West Lake has enjoyed a great position in the history of world landscaping design and Oriental cultural exchange since the 9th century. Its enduring influences have become more mature today, making the lake a very unique cultural landscape embedded with rich history, culture and fresh design.
The West Lake area is a great example of the aesthetics of Chinese landscape painting. Initiated by two great literati Bai Juyi and Su Dongpo, the landscapes combine the traditional cultural and religious elements of Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism, reflecting the creative spirits of ancient Chinese intellectuals.

To protect the West Lake area, the city has been moving modern high-rises to the Binjiang District of Hangzhou, where I bought an apartment in 2007. I have seen the roads getting wider, traffic smoother, and living more convenient along the way.
