The West Lake area is a great example of the aesthetics of Chinese landscape painting. Initiated by two great literati Bai Juyi and Su Dongpo, the landscapes combine the traditional cultural and religious elements of Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism, reflecting the creative spirits of ancient Chinese intellectuals.

To protect the West Lake area, the city has been moving modern high-rises to the Binjiang District of Hangzhou, where I bought an apartment in 2007. I have seen the roads getting wider, traffic smoother, and living more convenient along the way.
