Old town, new year
Tangqi, an old town in Yuhang District, north of downtown, has hung hundreds of lanterns on the road to its main entrance and prepared numerous activities for visitors during the Chinese New Year holiday.
Childhood games from yesteryear are being organized near the ancient Guangji Bridge and restaurants and food stalls lining the town’s narrow streets are serving dumplings, rice cakes, spring rolls and local delicacies.
Some restaurants will hang gift bags at doors for customers to take. These contain boiled eggs, roasted peanuts and other snacks with auspicious meanings.
In the Tangqi Cultural and Sports Center, visitors can also watch Chinese opera during the holiday period that runs through March 5.
