Online spend soars

HANGZHOU residents spent an average of 271 yuan on goods and services bought online last year, a jump of almost 60 percent over 2011, the Hangzhou Statistics Bureau said this week.
They spent 140 yuan alone in the last quarter, more than half of their online expenditure for the whole year.
Many websites ran year-end promotions between November 11 and December 12.
High-income families, representing about 20 percent of the city's total population, spent 15 times more on online shopping than low-income families, who also account for about 20 percent of the population.
