Orchestra season

Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra will begin the 2013-2014 music season on Sunday.

At the opening ceremony, noted horn performer Han Xiaoming will play with the orchestra for the first time.

Artistic director Yang Yang said that 34 classical music concerts and 20 “Stroll in the Afternoon” concerts are planned.

Famous foreign music performers including the Princess Chulabhorn Walailak of Thailand, Maxim Vengerov of Russia and Lara St John of Canada will play with the orchestra.

During the season, the orchestra will present the musical version of “Peter Grimes” and join with Russian National Music Theater to present “The Nutcracker.”

From April 20 to July 20, 2014, the orchestra will hold 13 concerts to celebrate its fifth birthday. On July 20, famous cellist Wang Jian, Polish conductor Krzysztof Penderecki and South Korean pianist Kun-woo Paik will be invited to perform.
