Pagoda repairs

THE 1,000-year-old Liuhe Pagoda on the banks of the Qiantang River closed on May 2 for maintenance and repairs.

Built by the king of the Wuyue Kingdom during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms Period (AD 907-979) to "calm" the tidal bores of the Qiantang River, the wood-and-brick pagoda's name means "six harmonies." It was last renovated in 1991. Work will take around six months.
