Parking fees to rise

Cars parked in the West Lake area during the Spring Festival will be charged 30 yuan an hour as a means of urging people to adopt a low-carbon lifestyle.

Traffic control will also be imposed in the lake area during the weeklong holiday starting Wednesday, according to a government notice issued last week.

Cars can only enter the lake area according to the odd or even number of the last digit on their license plates. Traffic control will be enforced from 8:30am to 5pm during the holiday.

The West Lake Scenic Area normally charges 10 yuan an hour for parking. To prevent traffic jams, the fee increases to 20 yuan an hour during holidays and on weekends of the peak travel season from March 15 to May 31 and from September 15 to November 30.
