Parking near Metro

Hangzhou plans to build 41 parking lots near Metro stations in the suburbs in the next seven years to ease downtown traffic and promote low-carbon travel.

Nine parking lots will be built along Metro Line 1, five along Line 2, four each along Lines 3, 4 and 10, six along Line 5, three along Line 6, and two each along Lines 7, 8 and 9. Most of the parking lots will be located in the city’s outskirts where public transportation infrastructure is lacking but land is abundant.

They are within 500 meters of Metro stations. Commuters can leave their cars in the lots and take a subway downtown.

Existing parking lots are not fully utilized due to high parking fees. The local urban planning bureau is considering the P+R (park and ride) model adopted in Shanghai and giving subsidies to parking lots that charge 10 yuan for 24-hour parking.
