Park's green award
CHANGQIAOXI Park at the foot of the Yuhuang Hill, south of West Lake, has won the Dubai International Award for Best Practices in Improving the Living Environment.
The park, a 600-meter-long, 90-meter-wide tract of trees and shrubbery around four ponds, is actually a sewage treatment plant. It is one of the 10 Chinese projects that have won the habitat award so far.
A 136-square-meter sewage treatment facility is hidden under the Chengguan Pavilion in the park. It can treat 3,000 cubic meters of waste water every day. Purified water is then fed into the nearby West Lake.
