Pay gap decreases

The city’s average disposable income of rural residents nearly doubled from 13,186 yuan (US$2,029) in 2010 to 25,719 yuan last year, according to officials at the rural work conference held recently.

However, the average disposable income of urban residents was 1.88 times that of rural residents last year, though the gap had narrowed from 2.28 times in 2010.

Official statistics show that more than 30 million people visited rural areas for sightseeing and leisure, generating 3.22 billion yuan in agri-tourism earnings.

E-commerce is also flourishing in rural areas, totaling about 6 billion yuan last year. Thirty-four villages around Hangzhou have e-commerce service centers to help farmers conduct online transactions.
