Pesticide checks

A total of 27 large- and medium-sized farmers' markets in Hangzhou's Xiacheng District will set up fast checkpoints for pesticide residue on produce.

The city's quality watchdog officials will conduct spot checks on more than seven batches of food and vegetables in at least three markets every day. The foods will be destroyed if the pesticide residue in them is found in excess of the standards.

The district government will also sort out foodstuff approaching expiry dates on special shelves in 18 supermarkets this year.
