Plan to reduce smog
Hangzhou is planning to create an air corridor across the city to reduce smog, acting Mayor Zhang Hongming has said. Hangzhou recorded 209 days of air pollution in the first 10 months of this year, compared with 157 days last year and 159 days in 2011. Other problems facing urban planners are bigger traffic jams and a poor drainage system that leads to flooding. Hangzhou is remaking its urban design to address problems arising from years of rapid development. The central government has given Hangzhou the green light to carry out a new round of urban development.
