Poetry festival
THE first International Poetry Festival of the Grand Canal was held on Wednesday. It included 35 poets, writers and novelists from 10 countries.
The theme of the festival was "City, Water and Heart."
Famed Russian literature scholar Agenosov V.V., Japanese poet Takahashi Mutsuo and Chinese poets Ouyang Jianghe and Zhai Yongming gave either a lecture or poetry reading.
The Grand Canal is the longest canal or artificial river in the world. It was connected during the Sui Dynasty (AD 581–618) and allowed China's urban centers to expand their economies and promote the development of regional cultures.
Hangzhou is at the southern end of the canal and has long been a place of culture and scholars.
The event was sponsored by Today Magazine and Shuyu Culture and Art Pavilion.
