Polar World plan

Hangzhou Polar Ocean World and Xianghu Tourist Holiday Resort signed an agreement last week to expand the aquarium so that visitors can have meals and even sleep under a huge glass tank with fish and sea mammals swimming overhead.

The aquarium will acquire land from nearby Xiaoshan Children’s Park, which is set to close in October, and increase its space from 20,000 square meters to 368,000 square meters. The expansion project will cost 2 billion yuan and include a hotel and an underwater restaurant. The aquarium will reopen in May 2017.

After the expansion, Polar Ocean Theme Park will have a dozen pavilions and five animal circuses.

“The white whale circus will have more than 20 artificially bred whales and the audience will see a spectacular show by these whales at the same time,” said Feng Miaohua, Hangzhou Polar Ocean World’s sales manager.

He said visitors can also eat in the underwater restaurant while divers swim with whales and dolphins.
