Polluting vehicle ban
VEHICLES failing to meet national IV emission standards - the equivalent to Euro IV - will be banned from the West Lake Scenic Area during holidays and festivals from next year, under a blueprint for air pollution reduction released this week.
The ban will be implemented during all national holidays, as well as the West Lake Expo, International Cartoon Festival, International Marathon Race, fireworks festival and the osmanthus festival in the city, in order to reduce air pollution.
All districts and counties in the city should ban vehicles with high pollution from driving on at least half of their streets by 2015, according to the blueprint.
By the end of 2016, new energy buses should account for at least a fifth of all the buses citywide, and in the downtown the ratio should reach 50 percent, while new-energy cabs should account for 30 percent of all the fleet, says the plan.
High-pollution industrial projects will be banned from areas with excellent environmental conditions.
The textile industry in Xiaoshan District, paper industry in Fuyang City, heavy industry in Gongshu District and chemical industry in Jiande City will be limited and adjusted to give way to low-pollution industries, says the blueprint.
Clean energy should account for over 70 percent of energy usage in the downtown area in 2016, it adds.
