Polluting vehicles
Hangzhou will ban all high-polluting vehicles from its roads beginning on October 1. Automobiles without required emissions stickers are forbidden to drive, mostly those failing the National III emission standard for diesel engines and National I standard for gasoline engines.
The city removed 41,697 high-polluting vehicles in the first eight months of this year, but 29,223 more are still in use. Authorities stopped the annual emissions checks from September 10 and have relied on road cameras instead.
They will add 288 cameras across the city to take photos of polluting vehicles and punish drivers according to regulations. They have fined 7,559 violators so far this year.
