Population grows
HANGZHOU had 8.7 million residents at the end of 2010, 26.48 percent more than 10 years ago, the Hangzhou Statistics Bureau said.
In a span of 10 years, the city added 1.82 million residents, increasing at an annual rate of 2.38 percent.
Among the 8.7 million residents, 2.35 million or 27 percent are from other parts of China. The male-female ratio is 51:49.
Hangzhou has an aging population with the age group older than 65 accounting for 9.02 percent of the total population, up 0.19 percent from 2000.
Xiaoshan District has the largest population with 1.51 million residents, followed by Yuhang District with 1.17 million and Jianggan District with 998,800. Binjiang District has the smallest population of 319,000.
