Presidential bike ride
ARGENTINE President Mauricio Macri and his wife recently cycled on public bikes along the West Lake for morning exercise.
In T-shirts and sneakers, the couple and their entourage rode along Beishan Street and Bai Causeway early in the morning. They visited Broken Bridge, Jindai Bridge, Moon over the Peaceful Lake in Autumn, Zhongshan Park and the Xiling Society of Seal Arts.
Both President Macri and his wife praised the public bike system and the beauty of the West Lake. So far, Macri is the highest ranking foreign leader to ride a public bike in Hangzhou.
Hangzhou’s public bike system is one of the largest in the world. About 114 million people used public bikes last year, averaging 313,600 a day. And the city added 3,000 bikes last year to bring the total to 84,100.
Since public bikes appeared in 2008, more than 600 million people have rented them for commuting and sightseeing.
