AN exhibition featuring many rarely seen Chinese modern art masterpieces is being held in Hangzhou from October 16 to 28.
Taking the theme "Eternal Value," more than 170 pieces created by 50 artists - such as Qi Baishi, Zhang Daqian and Pan Tianshou - will be displayed on the exhibition, which is co-organized by Hangzhou government and Xilingyinshe Art Authentication and Assessment Center.
The organizers said the exhibits are all from private collections, both at home and abroad, a departure in the history of the event.
Some of the paintings featured in the exhibition have rarely been seen in public, said the organizers.
For example, the work "After Farming" by Pan Tianshou is one of the only three works on the theme of cattle by the artist, said organizers. The painting portrays an exhausted draught animal after a day's farm work. Created in 1958, it is regarded as an epitome of the "Great Leap Forward" era of the country when people were desperate to produce as much and fast as possible.
In addition, a forum on art collecting and appreciation will also be held during the exhibition. Collectors and experts will also hold seminars and lectures on modern Chinese paintings.
