Qing antiques
IMPERIAL treasures from China's last dynasty are on display at the Southern Song Dynasty Guan Kiln Museum in Hangzhou. They are on loan from the Shenyang Palace Museum.
The 84 antique pieces belonged to the royal family of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), and include a wooden refrigerator and a jade seal used by the founding father of the Qing Dynasty, Huang Taiji (1592-1643).
The exhibition ends on June 5.
New-energy cars
China's first display and sales center for new-energy cars opened in Hangzhou this week.
The center is a one-stop shop for electric and hybrid car buyers.
Hangzhou is one of the first 13 new-energy vehicle pilot cities in China and one of the five cities to enjoy central government subsidies for buying and using new-energy cars.
The city has built 12 electric car-charging stations and has put four of them in operation.
Hangzhou residents will get a maximum subsidy of 50,000 yuan (US$7,627) for buying a hybrid car and 60,000 yuan for buying an electric car.
Cycle stations
Five service centers for cyclists will be set up along the road skirting around the picturesque Thousand Island Lake in Chun'an County, west of Hangzhou.
Three of the service centers will have a parking lot, children's playground, fishing platform and mountaineering routes, while the other two will offer homestays for cyclists.
More than 5,000 cyclists toured around the Thousand Island Lake last year.
The service center project with an investment of nearly 8 million yuan (US$1.2 million) is scheduled for completion by September.
Volunteer program
Hangzhou has begun an expert volunteer program to send about 100 professionals who are experts in their own fields to work in the city's five rural counties.
These expert volunteers will provide free consulting, training and other services in Tonglu, Chun'an, Jiande, Fuyang and Lin'an counties to support local economic and social development. Authorities of the five counties can choose experts from a list according to their needs.
A team of experts will be assembled through volunteer application and recommendation by their employers. Professionals and scholars with a senior title or a doctor's degree can apply to join the team.
Desalination plant
China's largest seawater desalination equipment-manufacturing base went into operation last week in Hangzhou. Its investor, China National Chemical Corporation (ChemChina), said the facility will mainly produce reverse osmosis membrane, a key component in desalination equipment.
Though Hangzhou is an industry leader in desalination equipment production in China. About 60 percent of China's seawater desalination equipment came from ChemChina's Water Treatment Center in Hangzhou.
As the world is facing shrinking freshwater resources, many countries are considering the feasibility of seawater desalination.
"Reverse osmosis membrane is the core of the desalination system and determines the quality of desalinated water," said Yang Bo, general engineer of Hangzhou Water Treatment Center.
Yang said the new manufacturing base is expected to become the largest desalination equipment producer within five to 10 years.
Airport buses
From Monday, passengers from Xiaoshan International Airport can take a bus service direct to Quzhou.
Buses will depart from the airport to Quzhou South Bus Station at 10:40am, 2:40pm and 7:40pm daily, while the service from Quzhou arrives at the airport at 6:20am, 8:40am and 3pm.
