Reading preferences
MOST people in Hangzhou read books, and novels and biographies were their favorite types of books, a recent survey by Hangzhou Library found.
Those under 14 years of age favored books like “The Little Prince,” “Totto-Chan: The Little Girl at the Window,” and “The Catcher in the Rye.”
Adults between 41 and 60 preferred “A Dream of Red Mansions,” “Walden” and “An Ordinary World” by Chinese writer Lu Yao.
Favorite books among readers between 15 and 40 included “Once Upon a Time in the Ming Dynasty,” “One Hundred Years of Solitude” and “The Kite Runner.”
Although Kindle and other digital reading devices are popular, 73 percent of the respondents said they still consider books their major reading source.
