Record drunk jailed

A MAN who registered a record blood-alcohol reading in Hangzhou was sentenced to six months behind bars and fined 10,000 yuan for dangerous driving, Binjiang District People's Court ruled last week.

The driver, surnamed Zhang, 31, drove a car against oncoming traffic along Shidai Avenue in Binjiang District on October 22, bumping into a truck near Binkang Road at 4:52pm.

Zhang failed a blood-alcohol test with a blood alcohol reading of 4.1mg/ml, five times of the legal limit of 0.8mg/ml, setting a new record blood alcohol reading in the city, according to police.

The truck driver, surnamed Zhou, got out of his vehicle to talk to Zhang, who tried to flee. Zhou stopped Zhang's car, helped by other drivers, and called police.

Zhang, from Anhui Province, was involved in a family dispute the previous day and admitted drinking 200ml of liquor before driving his sister's car.
