Road assistants

People applying for a driving license must work as road safety assistants for two 45-minute sessions at designated crossroads, Hangzhou traffic police said.

Except those with disability or aged over 50, all future drivers must book their sessions online and complete the required sessions before taking the driving safety exam, the last of three tests to qualify for a driving license.

During the two sessions, they will need to apply traffic rules, traffic lights and signs, police gestures, as well as other practices.

Hangzhou has 61 road intersections for aspiring drivers to complete their required sessions. Traffic police will send them to designated positions. Every day, 1,000 people can work as traffic safety assistants from 7am to 6:30pm.
