Road congestion

The 1,600-meter-long Desheng Elevated Road in central Hangzhou was the most congested road in the city last month, according to a monthly traffic report released recently.

The eastward lanes, from Moganshan Road to Shangtang Road, were jam-packed 8.3 hours a day on average, 3.3 hours longer than in December, partly due to the opening of Qiushi Elevated Road as Qiushi Road is connected with Desheng Road and more drivers wanted to take advantage of elevated throughways, the report said.

Qingchun Road E. was also affected by the opening of Qiushi Elevated Road and the construction of Wenyi Road Tunnel which is scheduled for opening in 2017.

Qiushi Elevated Road, the second phase of Yuhangtang Road, and the Zijingang Road Tunnel have significantly improved the city’s north-south traffic, shortening Zhonghe Elevated Road congestions from 9.5 hours to 4.2 hours and traffic speed accelerated from 20 kilometers an hour to 33kph on average.

The north-south ground traffic dwindled and driving speed rose by 15 percent on average.

Evening rush-hour traffic also improved from “moderate congestion” to “mild congestion,” the report said.

Bus No. 41 is the fastest bus route in downtown with an average speed of 20kph in rush hours.
