Royal relic projects

HANGZHOU last week approved 13 projects protecting the city's relics and promoting its history.

A 15-square-kilometer area is among projects around the former royal city of the Southern Song Dynasty (420-279 AD). The royal city is at the foot of Fenghuang Hill to the south of West Lake. It is about 800 meters long and 600 meters wide.

Other projects include building the Southern Song Dynasty Museum, the relocation of Hangzhou Tobacco Factory, protecting Wuliu Lane and the construction of White Pagoda Park, Jiangtai Hill Buddhism Culture Park and Jiangyangfan Ecological Park.

The city began a series of projects to protect key sites and relics in 2010. To date, 17 projects have been completed, including Southern Song Royal Street and Sanmaoguan Taoist Temple at Wushan Hill.
