Running track open
THE 400-meter-long rubberized running track at Xiacheng District Sports Center officially opened to the public today to mark the National Fitness Day.
The track surrounds a standard football field, once the training site of the Chinese team as they prepared for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2007.
So far, some five hundred public schools have opened their sports facilities to local residents, according to city officials. People can enter the campuses by showing their Hangzhou residence cards.
There are other venues where people can work out along the Qiantang River. A newly-built waterfront promenade has an 11-kilometer jogging lane painted in blue and a bike lane painted in red.
