Santas from Finland

A HANGZHOU department store invited five certified Santa Clauses from Finland to help enliven the Christmas atmosphere at the store.

There are only 50 certified Santa Clauses in Finland and the store paid nearly 1 million yuan (US$164,000) to hire the five Santas, each over 1.9 meters tall, with silver-white moustaches and big bellies. A certified Santa not only has a big frame, long moustache and a good command of English, he also needs to learn child psychology, make-up skills, and have the strength to pull a reindeer sleigh.

There are at least six Santa Claus training schools in the United States, and Hong Kong just opened its first Santa Claus school in March. After graduation, an American Santa Claus can make US$15 to US$35 an hour, or up to US$8,000 to US$12,000 in one holiday season.
