Scenic spot vandal
A 21-YEAR-OLD man from neighboring Jiangxi Province was caught on Tuesday for allegedly spraying red paint on 12 scenic spots along West Lake.
Police said the man surnamed Guan will be given a psychological test to determine if he is mentally ill.
Twelve scenic spots along Beishan Road were smeared with red paint in the wee hours of Monday, including the Tomb of Su Xiaoxiao, Broken Bridge and Xiling Bridge, Manao Temple and West Lake Expo Museum.
Some signs and advertising boards were also marred with red paint. Surveillance videos showed the vandalism was done by a man with short hair, a white T-shirt, grey pants and black shoes. He was alone. Guan will face a 15-day detention and a fine of up to 1,000 yuan (US$160) if found guilty.
