Science winners

Zhejiang Province scientific institutes and individuals won one tenth of the nation’s top science awards in Beijing this month.

The province received 28 national science and technology awards, considered the top science prizes in China, for 2017. A total of 280 awards were meted out at a ceremony held at the Great Hall of the People this week.

Li Lanjuan, director of National Key Laboratory for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Infectious Diseases, won the top prize for National Science and Technology Progress for the prevention of a H7N9 bird flu outbreak in 2013.

It’s the first top prize for healthcare industry in China, and it’s also the first top prize for National Science and Technology Progress won by an specialist from Zhejiang Province.

Professor Gao Xiang from the Energy Engineering College of Zhejiang University and his team won the first prize of the National Award for Technical Invention in collaboration with Zhejiang Energy Group for the research, development and application of ultra-low emission key technology for coal-fired units. It was another first for the province.
