Software center

AN education and examination center on world-leading digital compositing software Nuke opened in Hangzhou earlier this week.

The Foundry, which produces and distributes Nuke, set up the center at Timeaxis Digital Graphics Company in Hangzhou. It is the first center of its kind in east China. Timeaxis is one of the leading film and TV editing and compositing companies in east China.

The Foundry has established several centers in film and TV editing companies and universities that have film or editing department.

It is seeking to cultivate new Chinese professionals in the complicated software.

Nuke has been used on numerous productions, such as "Avatar," "King Kong," "Alice in Wonderland" and "Black Swan."

"It's a new industry and Chinese people have a lot potential at the very highest level," said Christopher Kenessey, vice president of The Foundry.

He gave the example of Digital Domain, a renowned American visual effects and animation company was acquired by Chinese company Galloping Horse and Reliance MediaWorks jointly last year.

"Not only are Chinese creating great work, but from a financial point, the business climate is influencing Hollywood," Kenessey added.
