HANGZHOU wants to be the cleanest city on the Chinese mainland by the end of 2016 and will select a few demo areas to promote its sanitation drive, officials said at a meeting last week.
Shopping streets, markets, transportation hubs, public squares, parks, neighborhoods and scenic spots will be selected as role models, they said.
The city will introduce an evaluation system to rate hygiene standards according to sanitation management, greenery and other aspects. Demo areas must be kept clean 24/7, including toilets and trash containers. Wet markets are banned from selling wildlife and live poultry.
